About UsThe organization was established as a single united voice for police executives in 1983 and was originally called the Iowa Police Executive Forum (IPEF). The motto, “The Voice of Iowa Chiefs of Police” remains prominent in our brand. Renamed in 2009 to the Iowa Police Chiefs Association (IPCA), the organizations mission is to foster a meaningful exchange of ideas through open discussion, research and evaluation of critical law enforcement issues. The Iowa Police Chiefs Association (IPCA) works with other state and national law enforcement and public safety associations to promote professional standards within the state of Iowa. IPCA members are routinely sought out as a resource by individual cities, the Iowa League of Cities, the Iowa Legislature, the Governor's Office, the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. IPCA expertise is also sought out by communities across Iowa to assist in the promotion and selection of current and future police administrators and executives. The IPCA is the recognized State Association of Chiefs of Police (SACOP) representative for the State of Iowa to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). An IPCA member sits on the IACP Executive Board as a representative from our region of the United States. A member also sits on the SACOP Board. Members are actively engaged in those matters of both state and national prominence and impact. The Iowa Police Chiefs Association has taken a leading role in many efforts to enhance professionalism and trust in law enforcement, including denouncing the practice of racial profiling. IPCA adopted the "Iowa Law Enforcement Non-Discriminatory Resolution" in 2000 and continues to work in a productive way to make Iowa law enforcement a recognized leader in the nation.
