Michael (Mike) Venema is the Director of the Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP.) In July 2024, he retired as the Chief of Police for the Clive, Iowa Police Department. He held that position for 12 years. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Administration (1984) and a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (2008), both from Western Illinois University. He graduated from the 219th Session of the FBI National Academy program, (2004). He graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government (2022). He started his law enforcement career with the Sterling, Illinois Police Department in 1984. He worked as a police officer for the Davenport, Iowa Police Department from 1985-2012, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He left that position to accept the position of Police Chief in Clive, Iowa. He is excited to bring his 40 years of law enforcement experience to his new position.
